Recruitment activity reached its highest point since early 2024 in the June quarter, according to Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA). Nationally, 47% of employers were recruiting, up 2 percentage points from the same quarter last year.
The Northern Territory recorded the strongest activity at 65%, followed by Queensland and Western Australia at 54% each. In contrast, recruitment was lowest in Victoria (41%), New South Wales (47%) and South Australia (45%).
JSA’s latest Recruitment Insights Report stated that difficulty has eased slightly: the national rate fell to 49% in the June quarter, which is 6 percentage points lower than a year earlier. Queensland reported the lowest rate of hiring difficulty at 44%, suggesting conditions are becoming more manageable for employers.
Industry differences remain. ‘Professional, scientific and technical services’ continue to be more difficult to fill than other sectors, while employers in regional areas reported slightly greater optimism than those in capital cities. Overall, the data points to stronger employer demand with fewer obstacles to hiring than a year ago.
