Business confidence rising slowly

Business confidence rose 2.1 points to 93.2 points for January, according to the latest Roy Morgan business confidence survey.

This marks the second consecutive month of increases. But the business sector remains concerned as business confidence has now spent a record 12 months below the neutral level of 100. It is down 13.2 points compared to the same time last year.

“Driving the small increase in Business Confidence in January was a slight improvement in views on the performance of the Australian economy. Now 38.3% (up 3.1 percentage points on a month ago) of businesses expect ‘good times’ for the economy over the next year and 38.2% (up 1.2 percentage points) expect ‘good times’ for the economy over the next five years,” said Roy Morgan CEO Michele Levine.
