Tasmania has placed first in the quarterly CommSec State of the States report, which ranks the states by comparing their current performance against their average long-term record. Tasmania ranked first in two of the eight indicators tracked by CommSec – equipment investment and dwelling starts (i.e. home building).
The other indicators CommSec measures are economic growth (Western Australia placed first), unemployment (New South Wales), population growth (South Australia), construction work (Victoria), retail spending (ACT) and home loans (Queensland).
It goes to show that business activity can vary quite significantly from state to state.
